The Government has asked Kenyatta University to recall students who were not involved in last week's riots.
Education minister George Saitoti said he was consulting with the university and lecturers on how to end the row involving funds generated from the parallel degree programmes.
"I have told the university management to look at possibilities of recalling regular students because they were not party to the pay dispute," the minister said after opening a regional conference on financing higher education at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies.
Lecturers boycotted work last week demanding 35 per cent of money collected from parallel programmes.
Protested at boycott
Two days later, the university was closed when students rioted to protest against the boycott.
The lecturers called off the strike at the weekend after Labour minister Newton Kulundu ordered the university to meet the lecturers' demands.
"We do not see any reason the lecturers should not be paid the 35 per cent they want from the self-sponsored programmes," Dr Kulundu had told journalists at his office in Nairobi.
The lecturers also demanded the recall of the students.
